Learn what steps to take to make up new cables. It’s not as mysterious as it might seem. Gain insight into how Norah’s mind works when she is doing her favorite thing - making up new cable stitches. Then, delve into making up your own. Day one focuses on stitch substitutions and other additions to change basic and multi-step cables. Day two introduces fills (textured and lace), inserts (drop stitches and leaves) and mirroring (vertical, horizontal and combined) by the afternoon you’ll be charting a complex cable of your own.
On your studio day you’re free to structure your time as you like without formal instruction while you work on knitting up and tweaking the complex cable you began the day before. The studio is available for your use all day (and night). There will also be a tour of Harrisville Designs spinning mill that day for those who are interested. Day 3 brings us back together as a class to see what everyone has accomplished, brain storm about variations and improvements, and bringing your work to the next level. We’ll wrap up with deciding how you like to use your new cable, with a focus on how to add it to an existing sweater, accessory or pillow pattern. Norah Gaughan’s Knitted Cable Sourcebook will be used in class. Copies will be available for purchase.
